BY CHRISTOPH FUNK. Cal. 16 bore. NSN. 26 1/2" Octagonal bbl. is silver inlaid w/ maker's name & "SUHL" on unmatted portion of top flat. Bbl. is mounted w/ 1 standing 1 folding leaf rear sight & silver bead front dovetailed through. Bbl. is fitted w/ underrib for cleaning rod held by 2 plain pipes, rear w/ sling eye. Rnd. bodied front pivoting underlever action is fitted w/ peninsula right hand back spring non rebounding lock w/ short serpentine hammer. Operating lever is covered in horn. Action & lock are engraved w/ 80% coverage lg. open scroll. Steel trigger guard w/ scroll on bow has scrolled extension forming pistol grip. Triggers are dbl. set. Lightly figured European walnut buttstock measures 13 1/4" over steel buttplate & features right hand cheekpiece & widely spaced point pattern checkering. Captive forend attaches to lift out bbl. w/ sliding bolt through oval German silver escutcheons. CONDITION: very good to fine, mostly original. Bbl. retaining most of what appears to be its original blue w/ scattered spots of rust, silvering on sharp edges. Action & lock retain traces of their original case hardening color, perhaps as much as 20%. Stock w/ 30-40% of what appears to be original finish w/ considerable wear & many marks. Bore is very good to fine, shiny w/ some scattered pitting at breech end. Action is tight. Top spur of hammer is broken off, cleaning rod missing. Triggers set. (01-18691/MGM69).
