RIFLE. Cal. about 44. NSN. Bbl. 34 3/8" oct. to rnd. w/ faceted transition. German silver blade front sight & fixed V notch rear sight. Engraved mule ear lock. Plain trigger. Wedge fastened half length walnut stock w/ right & left side cheekpieces & pewter tip. Brass fittings consist of crescent buttplate, toeplate, trigger guard, forearm plate & faceted thimble. German silver ornamentation include 8 point stars on cheekpieces w/ 2 1/4" stripes on both sides of forearm. Sideplate & remaining wedge escutcheon are also silver. Hardwood ramrod held on iron under rib by 2 plain iron pipes. Oval brass tag marked "J.M. DAVIS / 20003 / MEMORIAL" is attached to trigger guard. The JM Davis Firearms Museum in Claremore, OK is home to the world's largest privately held firearms collection. WEIGHT: 11 lbs. CONDITION: metal has faded to a mottled brown patina w/ pitting in breech area. Stock has age darkened worn appearance w/ dents & handling marks having a sm. crack at side plate. Lock are shows light wood erosion. Left wedge escutcheon & rectangular wrist plate are missing. Functioning lock. Dark lightly pitted bore retaining deep rifling.
