UNMARKED ENGLISH SPRING BAYONET PERCUSSION
BLUNDERBUSS. Cal. 16 bore, 1 1/2" at muzzle. NSN. 14 1/2" Damascus blunderbuss bbl. is oct. at breech end & transitions to 16 sided & then to rnd. through 3/8" nicely turned "wedding band". Top of bbl. is mounted w/ 13" triangular spring loaded bayonet held in place by sliding thumb piece on breech plug. Locking detent is at muzzle. Mostly isolated front spring percussion lock is line border engraved & fitted w/ matching flat faced hammer. Stock of relatively plain European walnut is iron mounted. Steel ramrod mounts through beaded iron thimble. Stock attaches to bbl. w/ sliding bolt through German silver oval escutcheons. CONDITION: very good to fine. Bbl. retains traces of original brown under considerable light pitting & associated gray brown color. Lock retains a little case hardening color where protected. Stock retaining most of its original varnish finish has a lg. number of scrapes & marks. Mechanically fine, lock is good. Nipple mashed. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti.
