GIDEON ANGSTADT. Cal. 44 rifled bore. NSN. Bbl. 38". Overall length 54 1/2". Has 4 piece engraved brass patchbox. Stock incised carved to rear of the cheekpiece. Bbl. pinned to the stock. It has been attributed to Gideon Angstadt, who worked in Lewisburg during the late flint period. CONDITION: percussion lock is a replacement, as the gun had originally been in flint. The saddle plate has been moved back approx. 5" & the bbl. has been cut from the back, suggesting the gun was broken in half some time & a 4" piece of the stock is missing.
