BY J. P. SAUER WITH 45-70 RIFLE BARREL. Cal. 10 Ga., 2 7/8" / 45-70. S# 33364. Bbls. 30", marked "FINE DAMASCUS BARRELS" in milled out portion of matted full length rib w/ doll's head extension. A flip up rear U notch sight & silver bead front are fitted. Bbl. flats & bottoms of bbls. stamped w/ German black powder proofs, Sauer caveman logo & 2 different sized crowns. Case hardened action opened by lever on left side is fitted w/ peninsula back spring locks with rebounding serpentine hammers. Rifle selecting lever is on top tang, which is also fitted w/ flip up aperture sight adj. for elevation. Action is line border engraved as are lockplates, which also have some sprays of scroll & are marked "CHARLES DALY". Steel trigger guard w/ scroll on bow has S# on tang. Nicely streaked European walnut rnd. knob pistol grip buttstock measures 13 3/4" over original checkered horn buttplate. Matching splinter forend has roller friction release. MEASUREMENTS: BARRELS: bore diameter: right .776", left .777". Restriction: right .034" (Full), left .032" (Full). Min. Wall Thickness: right .024", left .017" (2-3" area on side 6-9" from muzzle, STOCKS: LOP: 13 3/4". DAC: 1 7/8". DAH: 3 3/16". WEIGHT: 9 lbs., 9 oz, CONDITION: very good as partially refinished. Bbls. retaining most of a rebrown w/ associated light pitting. Action has traces of case hardening color. Stocks retain most what appears to be their original finish w/ over coat of varnish or oil w/ numerous marks. Checkering worn & gummed w/ some amateur attempts at recutting associated w/ repaired crack in buttstock running from tail of lockplates through to top tang, crack does not appear to extend into area at bottom of lockplates. Repair does not presently flex. Bores are good w/ light frosting, there are some scattered light dents & a bit of rifling at thin spot. Action is slightly loose. Bbls. slightly off face, (a .003" shim catches). Locks are good. (01-19913/MGM). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
