US MARINE CORPS AIR BASE SQUADRON 24 FMF FLAG.

52” x 64” double applique embroidered on red field. A Marine Air Base Squadron is a sub-unit of a Marine Aircraft Group. These types of units are tasked with the basic operations of a Marine air base in a combat zone. MAGs today also consist of logistics, fighter, attack, transport, helicopter, maintenance and other related units.
Marine Air Base Squadron 24 Fleet Marine Forces was once part of the Marine Aircraft Group 24 based at the Marine Corps Air Facility Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii (they are not listed on their current roster of subordinate units). This command is subordinate to the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing and the III Marine Expeditionary Force. MAG 24 formed in 1942 and served throughout World War Two in the Pacific Theater. The air base squadron would have been in charge of running any airfields in the theater of operations as the Marines advanced from island to island.
The flag is red with gold anchor and eagle and a natural color globe. The gold fringe designates this as their ceremonial and parade flag. (02-17547-60/JS). $600-800.
