US PRESENTATION GRADE M1860 STAFF & FIELD
OFFICER'S SWORD TO LT. CHARLES BEMENT. Overall length: 37 3/4". Blade length: 30 3/4". Blade has a raised medial ridge with gold highlighted etching on a blued field. Etching includes numerous foliate motifs, large “US”, an American eagle & an unengraved 2 1/2" presentation panel. The ricasso is stamped “H.V. ALLIEN & CO NEW-YORK”. Gilded brass hilt with double kidney guard. The front guard has an American eagle backed by a spray of flags. The rear guard is engraved “Presented to LIEUT. CHARLES F. BEMENT by Co. A. 7th. Regt. N.G.N.Y. 1895”. The end of the quillon is decorated with a lion’s head, and the knuckle bow has opposing foliate motifs. The pommel has an American eagle on one side and a shield on the other with a foliate motif on the top. Beautiful wire wrapped mother of pearl grips. Ornate gilded brass mounted plated scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows substantial original factory polish. Gold & blue highlights remain crisp. Hilt shows light overall wear. Grips are exceptional. Scabbard shows only a few minor dents, and the mounts retain nearly all of their original gilded finish. (02-19016/BF). $600-1,000.
