US SURCHARGED FRENCH MUSKET BY MAUBERGE.

Cal. 72. NSN. Bbl. 44 3/4", stamped "V" at rear & has filed in sighting groove. Lock which appears original flint has Mauberge markings in front of reinforced cock & "US" mark on tail. Lock also features inset faceted pan, bridled frizzen & feather spring w/ bulbous finial & teat. Walnut stock has fluted comb & attaches to bbl. w/ spring retained bands. All furniture is iron w/ usual Model 1768 shaping. Letter "V" is also stamped on side panel of stock, trigger plate, trigger guard & all 3 bbl. bands. Hand carved initials "WxV" are on left side of butt & the letters "IP" (Continental Army Inspector Joseph Perkins ?) & "ON" (?) are stamped on right. CONDITION: fair to good. Metal parts mostly brown patina over scattered pitting. Bbl. appears to be in original flint configuration w/ touch hole bushed. Lock also appears to be original flint & mates correctly w/ bbl. Stock w/ old refinish has some subsequent hand worn patina. Markings are fairly clear. Sling loops are missing. Steel ramrod w/ trumpet head appears original. There is some loss to wood of bbl. channel towards muzzle on both sides. Lock mortise shows considerable wear. Pitted bore. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti. (01-19679/MGM).
