This is a late 1950s/early Vietnam era United States Navy USN Flight Helmet type APH-5 Helmet manufactured by MSA (Mine Safety Appliances). It has the correct early type thick roam rubber edge roll, painted in U.S. Navy gold. It still has the internal padding, with avionics installed, with the sun shade retractable visor. The back of the helmet has the original maker label, which is mostly intact, indicating the manufacturer and the size of Large. Type MS-22001 MSA oxygen mask. Developed from the WW2 A-13A and is fitted with a webbing harness and metal "Y" bracket. The rubber is in very good pliable condition. The oxygen hose is equally good, fitted with a British 191A2 connector and while the mask is wired with a connector, microphone is attached, size large. This helmet is from the estate of John F. S____, (Last name is cut-off on the copy of description that came with helmet) who served 1952-58, flew the F9F-5 Panther, F9F-6 Cougar and FJ-3/FJ-3M Fury as part of the Fighter squadron "Jesters" VF-73. The foam rubber around the earphones have dried, flaking, otherwise good very condition.
