SN: 1057075 Scarce WWII era U.S. Army contract single action semi-automatic service pistol chambered in .45 Auto, manufactured in Swissvale, PA circa 1943. US&S was originally contracted to produce 200,000 1911A1 pistols, but due to a drop in projected requirements this number was reduced to only 55,000. Thus making US&S second only to Singer for the smallest production run of M1911A1s during the WWII. Features a parkerized finish, blued 5" barrel, blued barrel bushing, low-profile blade front sight, dovetailed rear sight with square notch, knurled trigger, knurled narrow hammer spur, manual safety on the left side of the frame, grip safety, push button magazine release, blued 7 round magazine, knurled arched mainspring housing with lanyard loop, and two-piece checkered brown nylon grips with reinforcing rings around the screw holes & interior strengthening ribs. Markings: Slide - "USS" intertwined monogram, "U.S. & S. CO./SWISSVALE,PA. U.S.A." & [crown]/”BNP”. Frame - circled "R.C.D.", "UNITED STATES PROPERTY/No 1057075", "M 1911 A1 U.S. ARMY", [crown]/”BNP” & 1959 Birmingham “K/B/2” crossed scepters stamp. Barrel - "HS", "P" & various Birmingham nitro proof marks. & Magazine - "C-S". Pistol retains approximately 70% of its original finish showing high point edge wear, scratches, scattered oxidation and finish loss in the grip straps. Action is smooth, the bore shows good rifling with light pitting between the lands, markings are sharp and the synthetic grips are very good. Condition is near NRA Very Good. ***C&R Firearm***
