Unmarked Pre-War German Aydt Falling Block Single Shot Rifle, #554, approx. .30 cal., 27.5" octagon barrel, blue and color case hardened finish. Checkered walnut two-piece pistol grip stock with Schnabel forend, sling swivels, stylized cheekpiece, hard rubber grip cap, and smooth color case hardened steel buttplate; providing a 14" LOP to the front trigger. Aydt falling block action, color case hardened protected blade front sight, adjustable aperture sight at the tang, double set-triggers, oversize trigger guard, hand rest, and lever release. Receiver and lever are color case hardened. The only markings are crown over "N", "B", and "U" proofs on right side of the frame. Mfg'd after 1912, as indicated by the crown over "N" nitro proofing. Rifle is in fine overall condition, retaining approx. 90%-95% toning finish on the barrel, with muzzle and edge wear. Receiver and lever assembly display vivid color case hardened finish. Stock with scattered indentations and bruising, with fine checkering at the wrist. A prior owner has written "H H g" on the left side of the forend. Action functions well and locks up securely. Bore is very good with well-defined rifling. Although unmarked, the rifle is typical of quality pre-war German hunting and Schuetzen rifles. Est.: $1,000-$1,500. (C&R)
