Allin was the master armorer at springfield armory at the end of the civil war and was tasked with converting surplus muzzleloaders into more modern breech loaded rifles. Working around the same time as jacob snider (an american salesman who patented a breech-loading system which he sold to the british), franz wã¤nzl (a viennese gunsmith who patented a breech-loading system with the austrian empire) and several other innovators, the allin system was born in 1865. All of these systems were quite similar with only minor variations. The model 1865 was patented in september of that year (several months after the civil war) and was soon dubbed the "trapdoor" rifle. The next evolution in the allin system came a year later and is remembered as the model 1866 "second allin conversion", built on m1863 muzzleloaders the gun had improved ballistics over his prior action. The gun was chambered for the then modern . 50-70 centerfire cartridge and proved a formidable weapon for its time. The next variant was the model 1868 which, unlike its two predecessors, was fabricated as a breechloader from scratch and they were serialized (this was the only variant chambered for . 50-70 government that had serialization), although surplus parts from obsolete muskets were still used in its construction. The model 1868 was very well constructed and continued to see service with the navy and marine corps into the 1880s (the . 45-70 trapdoors were introduced in 1873). this particular specimen is a model 1868, one of 52,145 made of the specific variant. The gun has some honest wear but it remains aesthetically pleasing and mechanically sound. This is a great option for fans of us martial arms and historical firearms more broadly. Good luck on your bid!

Some states, including California, New York, and New Jersey, restrict the sale of such items. International buyers should check their country's import laws before bidding. Obtaining permits or licenses is solely the buyer's responsibility, and LSB cannot assist with this process. Delays or inability to obtain necessary permits will not justify canceling a purchase or delaying payment. Buyers agree to adhere to all restrictions as a condition of the sale.
11.Warranties & Representations: Bidders are responsible for requesting information and inspecting items before bidding. In-person bidders must note discrepancies before leaving. Online or absentee bidders should inspect items upon receipt and report major issues within 30 days of the auction. Late payments or actions that delay delivery void the guarantee. This limited guarantee does not cover minor imperfections, natural wear, or operational issues. Items in this auction are sold "as-is" and have no guarantee. Our descriptions and photos are our best attempt to help you make an informed bidding decision.
Buyers may submit written refund requests within 30 days for valid discrepancies. Approved returns must be received within 7 days, and refunds cover only the purchase price. A restocking fee of up to 25% may be charged.

C&R firearms need a valid C&R license, and antiques require photo ID for those 18+.

14.Liability: LSB is not responsible for errors in descriptions or any resulting losses. The auction may be canceled or postponed at LSB's discretion.
15.Safety: All firearms are sold as collectibles without safety guarantees. Buyers are solely responsible for firearm safety and should have all firearms inspected by a qualified gunsmith before use. LSB assumes no liability for damages, injury, or death resulting from misuse or defective merchandise.
16.Denial of Sale & Withdrawal: LSB reserves the right to deny sales or withdraw items without liability.
17.Governing Law: All claims related to LSB or its Terms & Conditions are governed by Wyoming law. Disputes must be resolved in Park County, Wyoming, and buyers waive objections to the jurisdiction. LSB's failure to enforce any rights does not constitute a waiver. Waivers must be in writing and signed. If any part of the Terms is deemed invalid, remaining provisions remain enforceable.
