VERY ATTRACTIVE AND SCARCE BROWNING P2Q SMALL

GAUGE 3 BARREL SKEET SET, ENGRAVING BY J. BAERTON. Cals. 410, 28 Ga. & 20 Ga. S# PC4RR1559 (1977). In "The Browning Superposed", Ned Schwing indicates that only 21 multi barrel sets were produced in P2 grade in all gauges. This fine gun has 3 sets of 28" barrels, each with its own dedicated forend and featuring ventilated ribs mounted with 2 white beads. All barrel sets are choked skeet & skeet. Blued small size B25 action with gold plated single selective trigger is engraved with near full coverage large open flowing acanthus scroll similar to that found Diana Grade guns surrounding game scenes in well detailed backgrounds. Major subjects are relief gold inlaid. A pair of Canada geese are flying across a marsh on left side of action and a setter breaks point while a duck flushes from open meadow on right. A mallard flies across bottom of action. Long tang square knob buttstock of strikingly fiddle figured American walnut measures 14 3/16" over thin black Kick-Eez pad. Modified point pattern checkering is at grip. Flared target type 1 piece forends match well. Gun & barrels are housed in tan vinyl Hartman Browning case lined in fawn faux fur which contains what is probably the original Browning white line pad with screws and 2 keys. MEASUREMENTS WITH 20 GAUGE BARRELS: DAC: 1 3/8". DAH: 1 7/8". LOP: 14 3/16". Weight: 6 lbs., 8 oz. CONDITION: exceptionally fine with evidence of very light use. Metal surfaces retaining over 95% original blue, slightly silvered on thumb piece, trigger guard & sharp edges. Trigger shows some darkening of gold on blade. Stocks retain nearly all of their bright original varnish finish. Buttstock with a few light scratches mostly on left side. Checkering is still light in color. Finish has no damage with addition of new pad. Bores are all bright and shiny. Mechanically crisp. Case is fine with a few scuffs and marks in exterior with compressions and light soiling on interior fur. (22-1902/MGM). MODERN. $10,000-15,000.
