VERY DESIRABLE, FULLY TRANSFERABLE, ICONIC STONER

63A / A-10, LH FEED HEAVY BARREL MACHINE GUN W/ ACCESSORIES. Cal. .223. S# 86-9001 19.5” Heavy Barrel. Manufactured 1963-1971. From the old B&W photos of our Navy SEALS deployed w/ “Commando” variants of the Stoner 63, to their use in Hollywood, very few firearms have built the mystique of The Stoner 63. It is as rare as it is desirable and very few ever come to the market, let alone examples as fine as this. Though it was loved by the SEAL community, who made weapon care and maintenance a top priority, it wasn’t favored by the top brass for general infantry because it was believed that the average soldier wouldn’t have the time to properly maintain it. The Stoner Model 63A was part of a weapon project known as the “Stoner System”. The Stoner System consisted of a common receiver that originally boasted 15 different assemblies & configurations that could be rearranged to accomplish different tasks. These consisted of the following; The Stoner Model 63/63A Rifle, Model 63/63A Carbine, Model 63/63A Automatic Rifle (often referred to as “The Bren Configuration”), Model 63/63A Light Machine Gun, Model 63/63A Medium Machine Gun, Model 63/63A Fixed Machine Gun, Model 63/63A Commando & Model 63 Survival Rifle. These were fed, utilized and configured in several different platforms including; box fed, top mounted box fed, left-hand belt fed, right hand belt fed & solenoid fired, w/ several configurations including vertical fore-grips, tripod mounted, 30 rd. magazines, 75, 100 & 150 rd. drums and more. In some configurations the receiver was actually inverted to build the desired platform. Since it utilizes a quick-change barrel system, it was easy to change configurations or just maintain the system by swapping barrels during heavy use to avoid catastrophic failure. The Stoner 63A is gas operated and utilizes a rotating bolt w/ forward locking lugs which is very familiar today w/ our most popular modern sporting rifles. This particular gun is 1 of only 2 transferable examples assembled by Armitage International utilizing all Cadillac Gage parts. All parts are original, uncut and absolutely perfect condition. It is perhaps the cleanest Stoner 63A example this cataloger has yet to handle. It is set up in the left-hand feed Model 63A configuration as noted by the 4 rivets in the top cover, and has been upgraded to accept M27 links. The quick-change barrel is threaded, and terminated w/ the appropriate flash hider. It includes the proper folding carry handle, residing just forward of the ventilated heat shield. The 63A extending bipod has the ability to be removed, yet incorporates a locking mechanism to avoid accidental removal. Sights consist of a protected post front sight which is integral w/ the QC barrel assembly. The rear sight is a 2-position, folding peep, on the top cover, w/ CQB sighting as folded, and adjustable from 200 meters to 1000 meters when extended w/ a 22” sight radius. Though the Stoner has left side selector controls for use w/ the numerous configurations it was possible to be assembled in, the 63A variant is fully automatic only, rendering the selector inoperable. The safety is in the center of the trigger guard. Shoulder stock has sling swivel on top, at rear, still retaining its original rubber coating. Front sling swivel is located just forward of handguard. Receiver markings include; "A.I.LIMITED / WESTMINSTER, S.C." w/ serial number on bottom of receiver. Top cover assembly has several locations inside w/ either a #2 or the letter "C" in electric pencil. MAGS: 3 original Stoner 63A, 100rd belt boxes (2, still wearing original green lot tags), 200 original Stoner links & 100 M27 links. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Spare Stoner pistol grip. CONDITION: This Stoner is the finest 63A this cataloger has ever handled. The correct dark grey finish is complete w/ remarkably little thinning, even in areas of mechanical intervention. It is clean and strait inside & out. The bipod locks tightly and functions correctly. The carry handle, loaded under spring tension, locks tightly in all 3 possible positions. The forend is in beautiful condition as is the shoulder stock, wearing only a few small rub marks. The original pistol grip demonstrates a small hairline crack on the right side, visible upon close inspection, so there is a spare pistol grip included. Bore is bright w/ descent rifling. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT MG REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE. (03-1589/JZ). MODERN CLASS III. $125,000.00-175,000.00
