ACTION MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 22 LR. S# 712. Bbl. 25 1/8" including threaded muzzle attachment. Bbl. is marked behind front sight "SA flaming bomb 7-22". Lyman 48 aperture rear sight w/ sm. knobs. Slide is graduated to 125 points. Standard service type Springfield front sight w/ correct shortened blade. Muzzle of rifle has blued steel attachment applied over end of bbl. likely attached w/ solder. The attachment consists of a cylindrical boss approx. .800 in diameter; .685 in length w/ threaded end which reduces in size to approx. .350 in length & approx. .500 in diameter & is protected by a knurled threaded cap open at the end to allow use of the rifle. The receiver ring is marked "U.S.SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL OF 1922 / CAL. .22 / Serial #.". Bright bolt w/ non adj. head space not electro pencil serial numbered to the gun; turned down swept handle. Bolt handle is marked on top "N" "L" "3". Safety has non serif letters. Bolt sleeve has hand scratched "976" on left side. Headless cocking piece. Cutoff is unmarked. Trigger guard & floorplate have provision for 5 rd. mag. which is not present. Grooved trigger. Sporter type bbl. band w/ sling swivel. Standard butt swivel. Checkered steel shotgun type buttplate. Correct unmarked walnut pistol grip w/ grasping grooves. MAGS: NONE. CONDITION: stock has very good original finish w/ very light wear & tiny scattered handling marks. Bbl. & receiver have original rust blue. Trigger guard has thinning blue w/ peppery oxidation. Buttplate retains 50% original black finish w/ thinning & light wear. Threaded attachment has worn blue finish. Shiny bore w/ lightly worn lands. (23-789/RW). MODERN. $1,200-1,800.
