VERY FINE BECKER BORED SUPER FOX HE DOUBLE

SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 Ga. 2 3/4" (actual measure). S# 31593 (1926). About 300 of these iconic long range shotguns were built; the result of a collaboration between Charles Askins Sr. & Burt Becker (Fox gun borer) to get the most out of the new Western Cartridge Company "Super-X" shot shells. The guns were built on extra heavy frames, had relatively long heavy bbls., & were specially bored by Burt Becker for very tight patterns. Part of the mystery of this boring were barrel diameters approx. .740" & a slight recess behind the long forcing cones of the 4 1/2" deep chokes. A combination of shot size, charge, velocity, etc. can lead to variables in patterning, so later Super Fox guns were stamped "BARRELS NOT GARUANTEED - SEE TAG" (pertaining to tightness of patterns, not any issue of safety). This gun has 30" bbls. with matted concave top rib marked "CHROMOX FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL" "MADE BY A. H. FOX GUN Co. PHILLA. PA. U.S.A." on tops. Bbl. flats are stamped with serial number, grade, Fox proof & bbl. garuantee line. Robust case hardened Fox A & D type boxlock action with rotary locking bolt features automatic safety & dbl. triggers. Action is engraved with line & sm. scroll borders. "Ansley H. Fox" is on each side. Serial number is on trigger guard tang. Capped pistol grip buttstock of dense stump figured American walnut measures 13 7/8" over old Jostam pad. Point pattern checkering is at grip. Matching splinter forend with ejector patent dates on iron has Fox's variation of a Deeley release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: R .736", L .744".
