MERKEL WITH SCOPE. Cal.16 Ga, (2 1/2) x 16, (2 1/2) x 8 x 72R. S# 13539. Bbls. 21 1/2", stocked to the muzzles & have horn tip. Rear portion is removable for take down & is separated from front portion by horn divider. Full length matted rib is fitted w/ pop up rear sight, silver bead front & claw scope bases. Engraved "E. A. Merkel - Suhl" in milled out portion. Bbl. flats are stamped w/ 1932 German nitro proofs for 16 ga. & 8 x 72R. Casehardened boxlock scallop backed action features rifle selector on top tang, Greener style side safety, pin type rifle cocking indicator on top & raised arrowhead cocking indicators on sides. Also present are a Greener crossbolt third fastener, bushed shotgun strikers & dbl. triggers, (front set). Action is engraved w/ 80% coverage nicely cut varying sized scroll. Trigger guard is of horn. Dark, lightly marbled European walnut steel capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14 3/8" over ribbed horn buttplate. Stock features shadow line right hand cheekpiece, inlet horn diamond drop points,& closely spaced point pattern checkering at grip. Blued steel grip cap is engraved "H. A" on bottom. On the toeline there is a nicely engraved casehardened cartridge trap along w/ a sling loop matching bail type loop on bbls. Matching forend has Deeley release. Bbls. are fitted w/ Hensoldt Ziel - Dialyt 2 3/4X scope w/ 3 post reticle in soldered on claw rings. Bore diameters: left - .667, choke .030 (full), right - .666, choke .028 (Imod). Wall thickness: left - .032, right - .033. DAC: 1 9/16". DAH: 2 15/16". Cast approx. 1/4" off. LOP: 14 3/8". WEIGHT: w/out scope: 7 lbs. 2 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: plastic carrying case w/ a pair of snap caps & horn striker bottle. CONDITION: bbls. retain nearly all of what appears to be their original blue. There is some high edge wear on case hardening of action. Top lever thumb piece slightly silvered. Stocks retain nearly all of their original finish w/ a few light handling marks. Checkering has a hint of wear. Bright shiny bores. Action is tight. Set trigger works. Scope w/ nearly all of its Merkel blue is optically clear. (19-5479/MGM40). CURIO. $1,500-2,500.
