VERY FINE CIVIL WAR CASED COLT MODEL 1861 NAVY

PERCUSSION REVOLVER. Cal. 36. S# 17257. Standard configuration, bbl. 7.5" rnd., 1 line New York address, left side of frame “COLT’S / PATENT”, “36 CAL” stamped on left side of trigger guard. Ormsby rolled Naval battle scene on cyl., brightly varnished walnut grips. Frame retains most of its original case color, bbl. & cyl. retain much of their original bright factory blue finish. Revolver is housed in an original mahogany Colt casing w/ red velvet lining compartmented for revolver, dbl. sided angled spout eagle w/ trophy of arms flask, green label Ely cap tin, 2 cavity “COLT’S PATENT” blued “36 B” marked mold (B is for Belt), pack of 6 cartridges, & L shaped gun tool. Based on serial number, this revolver was made in 1864. CONDITION: very fine overall, all matching serial numbers, though cyl. originally “6684” was corrected when made w/ last 4 digits “7257” stamped below. Markings all crisp w/ exception of bbl. address which was lightly rolled. Bbl. retains about 80% bright blue, cyl. retains about 60% bright blue w/ complete rolled scene & all 6 crisp safety pins. Frame, hammer & loading arm retain about 80% muted & bright case colors. Grips are crisp & well fit w/ minor cosmetic blemishes retaining 95% plus original factory varnish. Accompanying casing average w/ soiled & stained lining, flask is especially nice retaining virtually all of its original varnish; other components very good. Casing is missing lock face.
