BANDED BRASS MOUNTED HESSIAN STYLE FLINTLOCK MUSKET W/ ORIGINAL BAYONET. Cal. 77. NSN. Bbl. 43" w/ deeply struck "S"(?) proof at breech end is engraved "Generalette" on top. Lock w/ rnd. bodied arched plate is fitted w/ removable pan, bridled friction frizzen; and featherspring w/ large bulbous finial w/ teat. Lg. rnd. bodied cock is unbraced. Center of lock plate is stamped w/ initials "I.D." under a crown and "Luxem" "Bourg" all in one small cartouche. Brass mounted walnut stock is secured to bbl. w/ 4 bands, three driven on, muzzle band retained by spring. There is raised carving around lockplate & bbl. tang. Brass buttplate is marked "7 1/2 BR" "1T BAT". A rack number (H No 27) is on oval brass escutcheon at top of grip. Rounded brass sideplate has secondary scroll termination behind front lock screw. Original trumpet head ramrod is marked w/ matching rack number. What appears to be original unmarked triangular bayonet w/ 14" blade fits musket perfectly. CONDITION: original "as found". Bbl. retaining a considerable amount of uncleaned brown to dark brown patina. Lock has highlights of original bright polish under brown patina. Brass undoubtedly cleaned hundreds of years ago has now obtained fine dark brown to black patina. Stock has light wear & fine hand worn patina at grip & forend where carried. Left side of comb has been dished out, exposing some worm holes. Lock cocks & works well. A truly fine revolutionary war period musket. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti.
