12 BORE GAME GUN. S# 30927. Made in 1924. Bbls. 27 1/2" fluid steel made w/ tapered matted concave top rib w/ brass front bead, wedges of scroll at muzzle end & nicely engraved end panel "VICTOR SARASQUETA EIBAR". Bbls. are of chopper lump construction, have proof marks on bbl. flats & bottom of bbl. & sling swivel on bottom rib. Full sidelock action w/ beautiful game scene engraving including right side w/ setter & pointer on point w/ pheasants. Left side w/ 2 setters on flushing geese. Bottom of action w/ makers name towards top & hawk retrieving a baby deer in flight in light relief game scene. Beaded fences & top of frame are beautifully rose & scroll engraved as is blued top lever. Top tang w/ light border scroll & engraved "SEGURO" in front of engraved safety button. Water table w/ proof marks & sm. import mark. Trigger guard w/ exceptionally well done dog head bust retrieving a fallen rabbit in relief surrounded by rose & scroll & long tang trigger guard w/ light scroll & engraved "MO. 210" at center of tang. Gun made w/ dbl. triggers, extractor & automatic safety. Nicely figured straight grip buttstock checkered in 2 point pattern through the wrist w/ teardrops carved behind locks, sling swivel & nickel oval near toe & terminates w/ a nicely skip line checkered butt. Measurements: 2 5/8" Chambers. Right: .729", choke: .005". Left: .728", choke: .040". Minimum wall thickness: Right: .030", left: .030". LOP: 14 1/8". CONDITION: very good & as found. Bbls. retain more than 90% of what appears to be their original blue w/ a few light scratches but nothing serious. Bores are mostly bright & shiny w/ pitting ahead of both chambers & more significant in the right tube than the left. Nice tight ribs. Action retains perhaps 30" of its original light case color. Engraving still very well defined & screw heads show some marring. Stocks are sound. Checkering has thinned & stocks retain about half of the original finish w/ impressions, scratches & hunting bumps throughout. Trigger guard & top lever w/ more than 40% original blue. Mechanics are fine though there is a beginning hint of wiggle in the hinge. Gun is on face. These high grade early Victor Sarasqueta's are extremely beautiful & high quality guns & are almost never offered for sale in the American market. This gun w/ gentle cleaning & preservation would be absolutely remarkable to use for many years to come. (22-1187/JSL). CURIO. $2,500-3,000.
