VERY LARGE PAINTING OF A UNION CHARGE AT THE

BATTLE OF LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN GEORGIA. This painting is housed in a frame measuring 90 3/4" x 55 1/2". The sight size of the painting is 82 1/4" x 47". An exceptionally folky and charming view of a Union charge against Confederate breastworks at the Battle of Lookout Mountain, Georgia. The well detailed painting was likely done shortly after 1889, when the famous "Battle of Lookout Mountain" lithograph was published by Kurz and Allison. The Civil War Battle of Lookout Mountain was fought November 24, 1863 as part of the Chattanooga Campaign. Union forces under Major General Joe Hooker assaulted Lookout Mountain and defeated the Southern forces under Major General Carter Stevenson. CONDITION: painting is a bit dirty and would benefit greatly from a professional cleaning. There is an old repaired hole 4" down from the top on the left side. There are currently 3 small separations in the canvas. There is a 6" separation at the top left, a 4" separation at the bottom left and a 2" separation at the bottom center. There is little or no paint loss associated with the separations, therefore restoration should prove to be quite straightforward. (02-17363/BF). $3,000-4,000.
