BARNETT. Cal. 56. NSN. The 36" octagon to round barrel has London proofs on top left flat at rear. Percussion lock with flat plate is stamped "BARNETT" "LONDON" "1884" at center. Tombstone fox stamp is on tail. Walnut stock extends to muzzle. Brass buttplate is held by five screws. Oversized trigger and trigger guard are steel. A classic brass sea monster sideplate is affixed by two large screws and one smaller to rear. Lockplate, sideplate and barrel tang are accented by carved moldings. Hickory ramrod mounts through two multi beaded brass pipes and simple hole in stock as thimble. CONDITION: fair to good. Barrel lock and trigger guard exhibit dark brown patina with considerable pitting. Stock shows old refinish with many repairs in front of lock with replaced wood and bondo infill. Bore is dark and pitted. Lock is operable. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (01-22556/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,000-2,000.
