Cal. 9mm Luger. S# DP99. Bbl. 4 5/8". Blade front sight with added red paint. Adjustable rear sight graduated to 500m. All matching numbers. Rare and unusual Inglis High Power pistol with the "DP" prefix. Pistol appears similar to Chinese contract pistols, with an adjustable rear sight and slotted backstrap. The meaning of the "DP" prefix is unknown. Traditionally, "DP" means drill purpose on Commonwealth arms, but this marking was usually applied by an armorer rather than the factory after the arm was well-used. In addition, the pistol appears to be made of standard Inglis components. It is possible the "DP" prefix means "Demonstration Pistol". Some of the known "DP" pistols lack Canadian acceptance stamps, but this example does have them present. The highest known serial is DP203, and the most surviving examples reside in museums, with only two known examples in private US collections per Mr. Law's book. Several of the "DP" prefix pistols were also sold to Mexico after WWII. This very pistol is pictured on pg. 115 of the book "Inglis Diamond The Canadian High Power Pistol" by Clive Law. Strong remnants of an Inglis decal are present on the front strap. Dark, parkerized finish. Checkered black grips. Lanyard ring is present on the bottom left of the grip frame. MAGS: 4-13 rd. Three mags are "JI" marked for Inglis, and one has a WWII German "WaA140" marking. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: replacement Sig Arms hardcase and small bag with spare parts. Also included is a British WW2 canvas pistol belt with a Canadian Hi Power holster, cleaning rod, lanyard, a British-made dual M1 Carbine mag pouch, and two other pouches. CONDITION: grips show some light dings and handling marks. Metal retains a 95% parkerized finish with some light scratches and light edge and handling wear. Bright, near-excellent bore. PROVENANCE: the collection of Curtis H. Halvorson. (23-5878/MJC). CURIO. $800-1,200.
