WINCHESTER M1 SEMI-AUTO CARBINE. Cal. 30 Carb. S# 1009514. Bbl. 18", marked behind front sight w/ flaming bomb W.R.A. & date stamp which is parallel to bore, 11-42. "WP" proof on top of bbl. & in front of forend tip. M1 carbines in correct configuration & original finish which have not been arsenal overhauled are very difficult to find. This nice specimen has a high degree of finish, clear & crisp markings. Rifle mfg. in November 1942 in the 1st S# block allocated to Winchester. Flip type rear sight marked "S" on right side. Blade front sight w/ protective ears. Sight base unmarked. Unmarked narrow bbl. band w/ wide aperture swivel. Straight cut slide marked "W". Detachable mainspring housing. Black bolt marked "W". Milled trigger guard marked "W". Push button safety. Mag. catch marked "W". Dog-leg hammer marked "W". Recoil plate marked "W". Walnut stock set. High wood "T"-slot buttstock marked on right side of butt w/ boxed "WRA GHD" "cross cannons" ordnance mark. Unmarked handguard is 2 rivet deep groove "bull nose" type. MAGS: 1-15 rd. marked "UW". CONDITION: stock set has very lg. percentage of original finish w/ light wear & scattered, sm. handling marks, commensurate w/ careful use. Buttstock has 1/4" crack on top right side of grip. Metal has 90% original finish w/ light high point wear & scattered sm. handling marks. Receiver has approx. 1/4" diameter blemish behind rear sight w/ blued appearance & appears to have been done during the machining process perhaps to utilize an otherwise serviceable receiver. The mark is not visible on the inside of the receiver. Very good shiny bore. (21-3580/RW). CURIO. $2,500-3,500.
