ACTION MILITARY RIFLE WITH BAYONET. Cal. 8x56R. S# E-15216. Bbl. 23 1/2". All visible numbers match. Serial numbers match on bbl. & buttplate. Rifle made by Fémáru Fegyver és Gépgyár Rt. (FÉG), Budapest, 1937-1941. The design is primarily Mannlicher w/ split bridge, separate bolt head & en bloc clip loading. These rifles were the basis for the design of the Gewehr 98/40 which was produced for Germany. This left the Model 35 w/ a short production run. The Model 35 is also notable for its 2 piece stock construction. Receiver ring is marked on top "BUDAPEST" "35M". Bolt has straight handle w/ flag safety & checkered cocking piece. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. Inverted V front sight w/ protective hood. Lower band has notably less finish than balance of metal & appears to be a replacement. Provision for side or bottom sling. Flat steel buttplate. European walnut stock set. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 13 1/4" double edged ribbed blade bayonet w/ steel scabbard & leather frog. Bayonet is unmarked except for tiny Hungarian acceptance mark & S#. Rnd. 1 piece walnut grip w/ flattened sides. Bright blade has lightly stained & oxidized appearance & has been sharpened most notably on the top edge & handle has stained lightly worn appearance w/ sm. dents & approx. 1" cracks at forward end. Steel scabbard is worn overall gray w/ spots of oxidation. Brown leather frog is unmarked but stitching is tight. CONDITION: stock set has moderate wear, staining & handling marks throughout. Forend & handguard between bands have notable deep scratches & abrasions from improper disassembly & assembly techniques. Metal retains 60% original blue finish w/ thinning, wear, light oxidation & handling marks. Bore has lightly worn lands & light frosting in grooves. (22-625/RW). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
