ITS ORIGINAL LEATHER CASE. The vellum document has a hand painted Coat of Arms in the upper left hand corner relating to George Powell of Tunbridge. The stamp on the left side dates the document to 1882. There are 2 wax seals contained in gilded brass holders attached by blue ribbons to the base of the document. Everything is contained in a black leather box w/ “VR” embossed 3 times on the lid & once on the front. The grant is in the form of an illuminated manuscript & has beautifully executed calligraphy throughout. The document also bears the Royal Coat of Arms & the Heralds of the College of Arms. The box measures 22" x 6" x 2 3/4" & is covered in black leather over wood w/ a blue & gold fitted interior to house the document & the 2 wax seals. George Powell was born Dec. 28, 1810 & died on Aug. 3, 1884. He had a successful life as a solicitor & was married w/ 3 children. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: assembled information on Grants of Arms & information about the Powell family in general. CONDITION: the grant is in fine condition for its age showing vivid colors & no notable damage. The seals are in good condition & solid. The box shows moderate to heavy wear but remains quite solid though lid detached. (02-15665/BF). $1,000-1,400.
