POSSIBLY ADAM HAYMAKER OF FREDERICK COUNTY VIRGINIA". Cal. 52. NSN. 42 1/4" Tapered oct. bbl. is engraved "A+H" on top. Lock w/ raised chamfered flat plate having file decorated transition to tail is fitted w/ serpentine cock, inset faceted pan, unbridled frizzen w/ curl to tail & file decorated feather spring w/ bulbous finial having teat. Stock of somewhat curly maple, is brass mounted & extends to muzzle w/ 2 1/2" brass cap. Mounts include patchbox w/ piercings underneath floral finial (release button in buttplate tang). There is a 6" brass extension along top of comb engraved similar to patchbox & return that extends to rear of trigger guard tang. Trigger guard itself is faceted & has grip spur. Sideplate is of plain unengraved squared brass. There is incised carving around lock plate & sideplate as well as grip. Some relief scroll carving is behind sm. chamfered cheekpiece. Ramrod channel is nicely beaded w/ low relief carving around tail pipe. CONDITION: good as restored. Metal parts are all a dark brown patina over pitting. Rear portion of stock retains most if its original red wash. Front portion of stock from 1/ 1/2" in front of lock to muzzle is replaced. Old crack in stock between sideplate & trigger guard. Brass is nicely toned. Smooth bore is dark & pitted. Lock is operable. Rifle is in original flint configuration. (01-20140/MGM/BF). ANTIQUE. $7,000-9,000.
