Valmet "Finnish Lion" (Suomen Leijona) .22 LR Standard model is a heavy-barrel, single-shot bolt-action target rifle built in Finland at the Tourula plant in Jyväskylä by state-owned metalworks that later became Valmet. With British Birmingham proof marks, a Finnish-manufactured precision competition rifle from the Standard/Finnish Lion series, that was officially imported and tested through a UK proof house like Birmingham. Serial number puts it circa 1952-53, early receivers in the 1,000 serial range were milled completely flat on top and lacked integrated 11mm optics dovetail rails. Octagonal receiver marked with Finnish lion, "Standard", British proofs, etc. 27" heavy target barrel with globe front sight with circle insert, slot & screw present at the left rear receiver for aperture sight but sight is missing. Fully adjustable match trigger. Ergonomic target-style wood stock featuring a pistol grip (frequently with a right-hand palm swell) and a hand-stop accessory rail integrated into the forend, adjustable aluminum buttplate, checkered panels in forearm & cheek rest, thin up-swept bolt handle. The bore is very good/bright, blue is very good with some light scratches/rubs, bolt knob has some dark patina from handling and the wood is overall very good/sound with light scratches/dings.
