''Velo Dog'' Style Double Action Pocket Revolver, with folding grips and trigger, by V. Rousseaux, Anvers (Antwerp) Belgium, NVSN, 6.35mm cal., blued 1-3/16'' barrel, with tiny dovetailed blade front (and recoil shield notch rear) sight marked ''V. Rousseaux'' and ''Anvers'' on either side; blued 5-shot fluted round cylinder with long rear lead-in grooves; case hardened frame with top grip release button and right-side barrel release lever marked ''6.35'', ''LAM'' within a triangular proofmark, and ''D.D. Oury/Bte'' (Brevete, or Patent) on left side; folding brass grips with stamped vine pattern in relief, with ''Lenovo'' and ''1905'' on left and right sides, respectively. Condition is mint, as new, the barrel and cylinder retaining all of their original deep blue; the trigger, screws and release levers with bright fire blue; the frame showing lovely mottled case hardening. Grips with a soft age patina. Action is smooth (but cylinder does not lock up), bore is brilliant with sharp rifling. A French creation, Velo (short for ''velocipede,'' or bicycle) Dog revolvers were created to protect cyclists from dog attacks when the sport was all the rage in turn-of-the-century Europe.
