Vintage Himalaya-Pickel "Kuno Rainer" Ice Axe is a highly sought-after, vintage mountaineering ice axe from the 1930s. Originally manufactured in Fulpmes, Austria, by the blacksmith Felix Ralling, the axe was developed with Austrian mountain guide Kuno Rainer, who took part in early expeditions to Nanga Parbat in the Himalayas. Known for their specific craftsmanship and design elements, built with a serrated steel pick and adz, ash wood shaft, and a four-sided metal spike at the base. The head is stamped with "Himalaya-Pickel Modell Kuno-Rainer" on one side, and "F. Ralling, Hammerwerk, Fulpmes" "Made in Austria" on the opposing side. The Kuno Rainer model is largely treated as a functional antique. They are highly prized by collectors and for decorative lodge or cabin displays. Metal loop hanger attached. Very good condition with no damage. measures 32 1/2"-L, the head is 12"-W.
