W. Collath "Wittener Excelsior" under lever, Side By Side 12Ga. Shotgun. Pre war. 29 1/2" barrels, solid rib, chokes are IM on both barrels. Bone Trigger Guard and Cocking Lever. Bowtie Safety. Double Triggers.. Strong Action. original Buttplate. Beautifully engraved with Hound, stags, and Fox Game Scenes on the coin receiver sides and Collath Sohne, Frankfurt A.O. on the edges. Bores are very good/bright, textured panels on wrist, sling swivels, blue barrel finish is about 70%, thinning with handling loss, there is light pitting around the chamber area. Wood is very good with minor scratches/dings. LOP is 13 3/4". Wilhelm Collath became owner of his firm in 1870 and was one of the leading makers of rifles, sporting guns, and proprietary cartridges in all of Germany. He ran the Company with his sons Paul and Franz until his death in 1906 when his sons took it over. They kept the business going until 1941 when Frankfort was bombed early in World War II.
