Cal. 32-40. S# NSN. Bbl. 29" Winchester 1885 VP proofed #3 having proper Winchester markings and dovetails (top and bottom). Front sight is dovetailed globe sight similar to Sharps #110 with small post and bead. Rear of barrel has blank in dovetail. Rear target tang sight is of European style having large target disk and clock key square adjustments plus "35" on left side of base. Mfg. in Germany using case colored Martini action having double set triggers and "BERLIN" engraved within decorative banner on right side. Left side has similar engraving with "W. FOERSTER" who was the gun maker of kings yet his known works are of higher workmanship than this example, save the action. Wilhelm Foerster's name and company continued beyond his death. Uncheckered walnut stock set. Forend has key hole style rosewood insert at tip, side panels at receiver plus oval metal reinforcement for attachment to barrel (missing screw). Buttstock has side panels at receiver, carved cheekpiece plus cast steel Schutzen style buttplate at 13 3/8" LOP; between buttplate and basic stock is a walnut spacer of about 1 1/2". CONDITION: good overall appearance with some spots of light oxidation and some peppery oxidation. Good case colors with slight fading. Action lever has patina tone. Barrel is best appearing with some slight oxidation at receiver juncture; appears original finish. Forend has no finish remaining plus sliver missing at top right rear. Buttstock is fair with repairs, minimal finish and some streaks from action rearward appearing from chemical cleaners used on receiver. Very good to excellent bright bore with hint of wear but no pitting or frosting. Proper mechanical functioning including set triggers. PROVENANCE: Estate of Frank Glenn Marsh. (22-3383/NW). MODERN.
