PERCUSSION SHOTGUN WITH QUARTERED OAK CASE AND ACCESSORIES. Cal. 16 bore. NSN. The 30” twist steel bbls. are engraved “William Landell Trongatt, Glasgow” on broad concave rib. Bottoms of bbls. are stamped w/ Birmingham black powder proofs. Patent breeches are fitted w/ German silver blowouts & have flying duck engraved on rib extension. Breech iron is scroll engraved. Front spring island type locks have rounded tails & are fitted w/ tall rnd. bodied hammers. Locks & hammers have some scroll engraving, geometric borders, & game scenes of dogs & birds that are well done. Trigger plate has stylized pineapple finial. Trigger guard is scroll engraved. Stock of figured European walnut measures 14 3/8” over steel buttplate w/ scroll engraved long top tang. Flat top checkering is at grip & a vacant truncated German silver rectangle is at top of grip. Stock attaches to bbl. w/ captive side bolt through oval German silver escutcheons. An ebony ramrod w/ brass head & tail (worm under cap) mounts through two plain pipes & a scroll engraved iron thimble. MEASUREMENTS: minimum wall thickness: left - .033, right - .036. DAH: 2 3/16”. DAC: 1 5/8”. Neutral cast. Weight: 6 lbs., 11 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: gun is housed in its original quartered oak case w/ brass corners & dual pivoting hook closure. The remnants of a folding D ring handle are on top. Interior is lined in green cloth & contains a good assemblage of old accessories including a copper bodied flask by Bartram & Belcher, leather bodied shot flask, three piece brass & ebony cleaning rod, pewter oil bottle, rosewood handled nipple wrench, powder measure & some wads & a capper in covered compartment w/ turned bone handle. CONDITION: very good, bbls. retaining strong traces of original brown. There is also a good amount of strong case hardening color on breeches, breech iron & locks. Trigger guard & buttplate are nearly all gray / brown. Stock retains most of its French polish finish w/ a few light marks & scratches. Stock shows an old crack through area of attachment to bbls. w/ replaced side bolt. Bores are lightly pitted throughout. Locks are good. Case is good, exterior w/ old oil enhancement is considerably scratched & bumped. Movable part of D ring handle is missing. Interior cloth is good w/ soiling & compressions.
