Also accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum Letter and corresponding data compilation table from Research Specialist Jessica Bennett documenting her extended research into the unique nature of SN 173891. It was forensically determined that this configuration is unique within production between SN 150001-225000 (the approx. 1873 Takedown Rimfire SN range). Whereas there are six recorded 22 Cal rifles with matted barrels, there are no other round barrel configurations of Model 1873s ordered in this serial range, making this a One-of-a-Kind example! CONDITION: very fine. Frame, hammer, lever and nose cap retain about 75% fine original case colors balanced with mottled gray patina and scattered areas of very light pitting from handling. Takedown pin is intact and remains unaltered. Bbl and magazine tube retain 70% original thinning blue blending with patina and scattered oxidation spots and crisp caliber marking. Barrel address is properly obscured by crisp matting which retains its sharp saddle cut edges. Buttplate retains about 50% of its muted colors with light pitting. Carrier is mustard patina with clear caliber marking. Stocks are sound, well fit with good color retaining much of their original finish, sharp checkering with some light oil stains and a few light handling marks. Some action screws show slight screwdriver distortion. Magazine tube is excellent. Mechanics are crisp. Bore with some frosting and sharp rifling. A truly unique and extraordinary Special Order 1873 being offered for the first time at public auction. Most certainly worthy of the most advanced collections.
