EXCEPTIONALLY RARE "REVERSIBLE" SIGHT. Cal. 40-60. S# 53195. Bbl. 22" round, 6" shorter than standard. Left side of barrel has British proofs. Front sight is the ultra rare Winchester reversible sight that was listed only in the 1882-1883 catalog. It can be used as a globe sight or rotated to produce a quick access U notch bead sight. Aftermarket Express barrel mounted rear sight with 1 standing and 3 folding leafs. Modern Vernier tang sight held by front screw only. Full length mag. Walnut forearm is the correct short rifle length of 8 3/8", 1" shorter than standard. Straight grip walnut stock with crescent steel trapdoor buttplate. Left side of stock has a small inletted compass. Serial number indicates 1884 mfg. CONDITION: barrel retains 60% dull faded blue blending with spots of light corrosion and handling marks. Action retains traces of blue in protected areas fading to brown patina. Dust cover retains 60% lightly faded blue showing handling marks. Sides of lever show faint traces of case colors. Wood has dark worn appearance with scratches, handling marks and small dents. Forearm has chip at right side of action. Sound action. Top tang screw is replacement. Bore is generally bright with sound rifling showing scattered very light pitting. (22-2874/DS). ANTIQUE. $5,000-7,500.
