WINCHESTER 1895 DELUXE LEVER ACTION RIFLE.

Cal. 30 U.S. (30-40 Krag). S# 46843. Bbl. 28" tapered rnd. Pinned blade front sight w/ Lyman No. 6 folding leaf rear sight & Lyman No. 21 (Climbin' Lyman) receiver sight. Straight grip factory checkered stock of fancy walnut. Top tang channel of stock is stamped w/ assembly number "19053" followed by "95" Model designation. Bottom channel of stock above mainspring is stamped w/ S# "46843". Back of stock under buttplate is stamped "FRED GOODWIN / SILVER RIDGE MAINE". Inside of action tangs are not marked. Special, extra length forearm of matching walnut measuring 16 3/8" is held by 2 screws. Extra long forearms were preferred by horseback hunters who laid the rifle across the saddle to shoot. Features include ebony tip, point pattern hand checkered w/ uncheckered diamond around front attachment screw. Bbl. channel has matching S# "46843" & 2 strips of added lead weight measuring 3 1/4" & 3 1/2". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Cody Firearms Museum letter providing the following information "Type: Rifle / Caliber: 30 / Fancy stock checkered / Sights: Lyman receiver, leaf, and front / Shotgun butt, Rubber / Received in warehouse on September 12, 1904 / Shipped from warehouse on September 12, 1904, Order number 245745". CONDITION: bbl. retains 90% dull lightly faded original blue. Action retains 60% dull blue fading to gray in carry areas. Original wood finish shows areas of wear w/ numerous scratches, dents & handling marks. Bore has slightly darkened appearance retaining sound rifling. (22-144/DS). CURIO. $4,000-6,000.
