AUTO SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 Ga., 2 3/4". S# 4. Unusual experimental auto using a receiver w/ Model 12 contours. Action is unfinished & in the white. Bbl. is 29 1/2" plain of "Winchester Proof Steel" w/ standard Model 12 markings. Fixed Full choke & steel front bead. Mag. tube extends 3 1/8" past the 10 1/4" forearm & uses Model 12 style mag. cap & pin. Heavy walnut forearm is hand checkered & attached by 2 screws on each side. Carrier, trigger guard & breech bolt assemblies exhibit features of the Model 40 & the later Model 50. Straight grip checkered walnut stock. LOP: 13 3/4" over Win. buttplate. Consignor supplied information states that he purchased the gun from Norm Flayderman who purchased it from the Winchester Museum collection in the 1970's & further relates it was built by Gustav Swabilius, a Winchester employee. This gun became the prototype for what was to become the Model 50. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: rectangular aluminum identification plate marked "W. 804". CONDITION: bbl. has 80% dull fading blue showing bright polish spots & areas of discoloration. White finished action shows some heat markings w/ a general light tarnish & corrosion. Exposed part of mag. tube shows rings of heat coloration & tarnish. Stocks have lightly worn finish showing scattered handling marks. Good bright bore. (19-4212/DS). MODERN. $1,000-2,000.
