SNIPER CONFIGURATION. Cal. 30-06. S# 2466319. Bbl. 24" marked w/ "SA-2-52". Receiver is marked Winchester. Aperture rear sight. Blade front sight. Rifle is equipped w/ M1D sniper scope base. The M1D sniper rifles were produced by Springfield armory by converting M1 Garand service rifles. These conversions were also done at several other arsenals & ordnance depots. Springfield armory also produced a kit for converting M1 service rifles to M1D sniper rifles. These conversions were done at base depots. The scope base has the correct characteristics including the chamfer at the attaching screw hole & the alignment pin has the correct 4 stake marks. The bbl. date of 1952 is in the correct range. This rifle was purchased from the Civilian Marksmanship Program and included is a certificate of authenticity w/ matching S# & model designation "RM1DF" which indicates a "field grade M1D rifle" according to the CMP website. Bolt, operating rod, trigger housing & hammer all marked "SA". Non matching stock set. Hardwood buttstock marked under grip w/ faint circle P. Stock marked on right side in white paint "12.BL 2552". Buttstock has been bedded for accuracy. Front handguard is walnut. Rear handguard appears to be walnut. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: matching CMP certificate of authenticity. Cardboard shipping box. CMP instruction book. Open bolt indicator. 1 - 8 rd. Garand clip. CONDITION: stock set has extensive wear, staining, dents & scratches throughout. Rear handguard has fine crack in top left side approx. 2" long. Metal has 75% dark arsenal rework parkerized type finish w/ light wear & handling marks. Bottom of gas cyl. has file marks & missing finish ahead of bayonet lug. Good shiny lightly worn bore. (21-2964/RW). CURIO. $800-1,200.
