KENTUCKY RIFLE MAKER. 15" overall, 9 1/2" well ground clip point blade, well sculpted iron "S' shaped guard with octagonal center fitted with matching octagonal pewter ferrule and maple grip carved to fit. Carving is reminiscent of “C” scrolls carved by Golden Age rifle makers. This knife has great character and patina. The man who made this knife, or who carried it, has scratched his initials “FHD” on each of the inset pewter escutcheons. CONDITIONS: very good overall. Blade is gray w/ staining & pitting. Smooth iron patina on cross guard. Gray patina to pewter, ferrule, escutcheons & pommel cap. Grip has hand worn patina with age crack on one side. (02-16934/JS). $2,000-3,000.
