BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 303 Brit. S# 11132. Bbl. 30 1/2". Aperture folding adj. rear sight mounted on top of receiver & blade type front sight w/ protective hood. Ross rifles were designed by Sir Charles Ross & mfg. in Canada by the Ross Rifle Co. of Quebec. There were 2 major types, the first made w/ dual opposed locking lugs & later w/ multiple lugs; this model rifle has the revised rear sight & is made w/ out the mag. cut off but retaining the Harris floorplate depressor. Rotating flag type safety. The rifles did not prove entirely satisfactory in British service during WWI but some were supplied to the United States for training purposes. Receiver marked on left side “ROSS RIFLE CO. QUEBEC” & “PATENT”. Balance of marking is hidden under rear sight base. Receiver has scattered “view marks”. Upper band has bayonet lug & stacking swivel. Sling swivels are located on lower band & triggerguard. Walnut stock set, buttplate has sliding trap. CONDITION: stock set has moderate wear, dents, scratches & staining. Has been lightly cleaned w/ added finish. Metal has 75% original blue w/ light wear & scattered spots of oxidation. Bolt rib retains case colors. Fair, worn, oxidized bore. (21-2488/RW).
