WW2 GUIDE LAMP FP45 LIBERATOR PISTOL.

Cal. 45 ACP. NSN. Bbl. 4". Crude fixed sights. Covertly mfg. during WW2 by the Guide Lamp division of General Motors. The gun was given the name "FP-45" to be deceptive implying the gun was a flare projector. The guns saw use by Chinese & Filipino guerillas against the Japanese. The intent was to use this crude weapon to get a better weapon from an enemy soldier. The gun operates by pulling back the cocking piece, rotate it 90 degrees in either direction, left the loading gate, insert a rd of 45 ACP, close the gate pull back the striker, rotate into firing position & then fire. Most of these Liberator pistols were destroyed post-WW2. Floorplate present. CONDITION: left side of frame has electro pencil number "203" & both seams are coming loose. Metal otherwise shows scattered oxidation, dings & handling wear. Smoothbore shows scattered light pitting. PROVENANCE: From the estate collection of Thomas J. Mulligan. (23-2201/MJC).
