Fabulous, all-original flight jacket with Captain's insignia on epaulettes, 8th Air Force insignia hand-stitched to left shoulder, hand painted squadron insignia on left breast underneath leather nametag "J.W. McGoldrick", right breast has 30 hand painted bombs signifying 30 missions. The big surprise on this jacket are the two extra painted bombs concealed inside the left pocket flap. Are these hidden because they were special or "secret" missions?? I have never seen this in my 50 years of collecting. Also, the back of the jacket is hand painted with "Macs Goldbricks", an obvious play on the name McGoldrick. Captain John W. McGoldrick 613th Bomb Squad jacket. McGoldrick was part of the 401st Bomb Group as well as the 613th Bomb Squad. McGoldrick was the pilot of a B-17 Flying fortress and flew a total of 31 missions from September 25 1944 to March 18, 1945 over Germany and other German occupied territories. The jacket is in very good condition, leather is supple, no rips or tears except for a small worn hole in top of collar, the liner is original with original tags with wear to the inside collar, original tag from Star Sportswear MFG Co., size 40, cuffs and waistband appear to be original with only very, very minor mothing. Talon zipper works perfectly and still has the brass survival whistle attached.
