WWII GERMAN ALLGEMEINE SS ENLISTED MAN’S VISOR CAP

WITH IDENTIFICATION. A superb example of a WWII German enlisted man’s visor cap of the notorious Allgemeine SS. The hat features a black wool body & black wool band. All piping is white. The death’s head skull appears to be plated zinc & the SS eagle is also silver plated. Leather chinstrap with 2 black enameled buckles & a central connective oval O ring. Side buttons have a black enameled finish. Black visor with dark orange underside stamped with an RZM SS mark. Dull orange sweatband with a legible, pressed in logo that reads, “DEUTSCHES LEDER”. Tan colored lining with triangular sweatshield. Under the sweatshield is a gold “SS” round insignia with the size “57 1/2” above. A black & white cloth SS RZM tag reads, “Vom Reichsfuhrer SS befohlene Ausfuhrung”. The owner’s name is on a sm. piece of paper, inserted under the sweatshield, that reads, “Heinr. Looschelders”. CONDITION: overall the cap is in superb condition showing 1 notable moth nip in the top & a few tiny scattered moth tracks. The piping is bright. The plating on the skull is 40% intact & the plating on the eagle is 80% intact. Chinstrap is strong & the visor has only the most minute crazing. Sweatband shows light wear with minor staining. Lining shows a few scattered stains. Sweatshield is intact & interior markings & tags are all clear. PROVENANCE: Lifetime Collection of Dennis Ottaway. (02-15981/BF). $4,000-7,000.
