TO SS GENERAL ADOLF AX. This group consists of a sm. award document for the Knight’s Cross dated “9.5.1945”. / A sm. award document for the German Cross in gold dated “9. Nov. 1944”. / A military evaluation dated “17.11.1941”. / A commission dated “1 April 1935”, personally signed by Heinrich Himmler. / A 4 pg. questionnaire, filled out by Ax in his own hand, dated 1936 when he was attesting to his Aryan heritage for advancement in the SS. Document includes 3 official photographs of General Ax. / A letter to Ax from “Der Reichsfuhrer SS Personlicher Stab Abteilung F” dated “3. Jan. 1945”. / A letter to Ax from Der Oberbefehlshaber dane 15. Armee” dated “10.12.1944”. / A letter to Ax from Reichsfuhrung-SS Dienststelle SS-Obergruppenfuhrer Heissmeyer dated “17.I.1944”. / A staff authorization document from the commander of the Waffen SS dated “ 11.Juli.1942”. Adolf Ax was born in 1906 in Belgium & joined the SS in late October of 1930. He became a member of the NSDAP on December 1 of the same year. As an SS-Mann, he was assigned to the 2nd SS Standarten & received a promotion to SS-Obersturmfuhrer & became the unit’s commander on 9th day of November, 1933. He remained in this position until April of 1934. He was appointed Commander of the SS Panzerabwehr-Abteilung which later became the SS “Das Reich” Division. He was an SS commander during the invasion of Russia known as Operation Barbarosa. He was subsequently appointed to the SS-Panzerjäger school in Holland. He was promoted to SS-Obergruppenführer & commander of the SS Grenadier Division "30 Januar". General Adolf Ax died at the age 76 in 1983. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: numerous pages of photographs & information about SS General Adolf Ax. Also included are English translations of the documents associated with Ax. CONDITION: documents show normal age with minor foxing & very slight discoloration. Signatures are clear & easily read. Photographs remain crisp. PROVENANCE: Lifetime Collection of Dennis Ottaway.
