ACTION RIFLE TO MODEL 98K CONFIGURATON. Cal. 8mm S# 1164. Bbl. 23 5/8". All visible numbers match. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. Inverted V front sight w/ protected hood. Rifle was originally at Imperial German GEW98 rifle mfg. by Haenel of Suhl in 1916. The conversion given was to turn down the bolt handle & machine a clearance cut underneath the bolt knob in the stock. The stock & bbl. were shortened to conform w/ the specs for the 98k rifle. The upper band is retained by a cross pin; the lower band being retained by a spring. The original Lange rear sight was replaced by a tangent sight which was given matching S#'s and marked "S/42". The Eagle portion of the Eagle 63 inspection mark has been obliterated by a punch mark. The receiver retains its original C.P. HAENEL SUHL 1916 markings. Right side of receiver has Imperial proofs; left side has Prussian Eagle proof. Bbl. is marked over chamber w/ "S" & Prussian Eagle proof. Left receiver rail marked "Gew98". Walnut stock set w/ steel takedown hole & flat type buttplate. The rifle retains its original bottom sling swivels including quick detachable butt swivel. Cleaning rod & bayonet bar are present. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: gray plastic muzzle cap. CONDITION: stock set has early arsenal rework finish which obliterated any acceptance marks & left only S#. Stock has light wear, staining & handling marks throughout. 1 1/2" crack behind receiver tang. Metal retains 50% original blue w/ wear turning gray & scattered handling marks. Very good shiny bore.
