Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 9602k. Bbl. 23 1/2". Blade front sight. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2000m. The cleaning rod is mismatched, but all other visible numbers are matching, and many are marked with the correct "WaA280" Waffenamt. Receiver top is marked "ax 1940", denoting Erma mfg. 1940. Right side of the receiver is marked with three eagle "280" Waffenamts. Blued finish. Laminated stock set with left slide sling provisions and original sling. Right side of the butt is marked with an eagle "H" Heer Army marking and two "280" Waffenamts. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: folding black muzzle cover, E. Pack, and S 84/98 bayonet with leather frog and matching scabbard. CONDITION: stock set shows some gouges, most notably between bands, a couple laminate cracks in the forend, scattered flaking, dings, and handling wear. Metal retains 30% of its original blue with overall fading to gray, some dings from improper disassembly on the rear band, and a few light scratches. Bore shows some scattered pitting & frosting but strong rifling. PROVENANCE: the collection of Curtis H. Halvorson. (23-5946/MJC). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
