(S/42) MODEL 98K BOLT ACTION RIFLE WITH KRIEGSMARINE MARKINGS. Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 9887f. Bbl. 23 5/8". This rifle was produced in 1935 by Mauser w/ "S/42" production code which has the additional "G" indicating the first year of production. Additionally marked on the left side of the disassembly disk w/ "O.1283" which indicates this rifle was issued to the KRIEGSMARINE; the "O" being the Ost See, or Baltic station headquartered in Kiel, the number being the individual weapon number. Rifle is additionally marked w/ "K" at belly of stock. Receiver ring marked on top "S/42G". Receiver ring marked on right side w/ droop winged eagle & square "K167" inspection marks. Marked on left side of bbl. & receiver wing w/ droop winged eagle. Left receiver rail marked "MOD.98". Tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000m. Sight marked additionally w/ square inspection marks "K" & "S" under the sight leaf. Inverted V front sight. All milled furniture. Bands are retained by single spring. Walnut stock set w/ flat buttplate & steel disassembly disk. Buttstock marked on right side w/ 2 droop wing eagles & square inspection mark; is marked at belly w/ "K" & square inspection mark. CONDITION: stock set has moderate wear & staining. Markings are generally legible. Right side of butt at rear has area of visible fine sanding marks. Metal has 60% blue w/ wear turning gray. Very good shiny bore. (22-660/RW). CURIO. $1,200-1,800.
