MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 8mm Mauser. S# 29152 f. Bbl. 23 5/8". S# matches on receiver, bolt, bolt shroud, upper & lower bands & floorplate. Receiver marked on left rail w/ "Mod 98". Receiver ring marked "byf" "44" (Waffenamt) "135". Receiver & bbl. have German eagle proofs. Bbl. numbered 40399 & (Waffenamt) 135. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. Inverted V front sight w/ protective hood. Cleaning rod is incorrect replacement. Upper band stamped. Lower band is milled. Stamped trigger guard w/ milled floorplate. Guard screws & lock screws appear to be replacements. Laminated hardwood stock set. Stock has crisp "WaA 135" on right side of butt. Stock is additionally stamped 44 on right side of sling slot. Buttstock has steel takedown hole & cup type buttplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 9 7/8" fullered blade bayonet marked on right ricasso "9852" "aa". Marked on left ricasso "43as". Bayonet has smooth walnut grips. Blued steel scabbard marked "E. PACK & S." "1940". Bayonet retains 50% original thinning blue w/ light wear & scratches. Notable loss of finish at the tip of the unsharpened blade. Smooth grips have light wear & handling marks. Scabbard has sm. amount of remaining blue turning gray & patina w/ sm. dents & scratches. Included in lot is early US M1 Garand slotted combination tool & a black synthetic padded hard case. CONDITION: stock set has staining, light wear & scattered handling marks. Metal has 75% thinning original finish turning patina w/ scattered areas of oxidation. Good bore w/ lightly worn lands turning dark in the grooves. (21-4509/RW). CURIO. $500-800.
