WWII GERMAN TRANSITIONAL M1936 CHAINED SS DAGGER.

Overall length: 14 3/4". This interesting example has an earlier M1933 dagger combined w/ an M1936 sheath. It has been theorized that some SS officers chose to retain their old M1933 dagger & simply purchase a new sheath to conform to the M1936. The dagger has an etched motto on the front that reads, “Meine Ehre Heisst Treue”. The reverse has a maker’s mark that reads, “E. P. & S. (logo) SOLINGEN”. Nickel silver crossguard has a stamped “I” on the reverse & the interior of the crossguard is marked w/ a circle in a diamond. Black grip has a central nickel silver eagle w/ black enameled SS button. Pommel has a similar interior mark to the crossguard. Sheath has a black painted finish w/ nickeled mounts. The chain is of standard form w/ the first top link stamped on the reverse w/ the SS runes inside a chamfered square. A fine example of a transitional SS officer’s dagger. CONDITION: blade shows primarily sheath wear. Crossguard & pommel have very minor scratches. Grip has expected dings & scratches but no notable chipping. Sheath has approx. 3-5% finish loss & remains exceptionally solid. (02-16233/BF). $4,000-4,800.
