WWII GERMAN TROPICAL VISOR CAP FOR LUFTWAFFE
PERSONEL. The cap is totally constructed of khaki brown cotton. The crown has a white Luftwaffe eagle on a triangular field. The band has a white winged wreath with central cockade on a rectangular field. The chinstrap appears to be faux black leather terminated by 4-hole sew-on painted metal buttons. The neck flap buttons onto the hat band by use of the chinstrap buttons and one similar button in the rear of the cap. The partial sweatband is a finer khaki cotton, and the crown lining is bright red. The crown is marked “59 1943 9/1316/0014”. CONDITION: the hat remains very solid, although it is a bit dirty. The neck flap has ample sweat stains, as does the interior of the visor & liner. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18231/BF). $500-800.
